Bias in the Media????
Ever heard the claim that there’s “bias” in the media. Well, that can’t be true, right? Let’s take a look.
Maybe you read the headlines a while back, “TV Executives Admit in Taped Interviews That Hollywood Pushes a Liberal Agenda.”
Hold on, before I go any further, take a look at the clip below to see my initial reaction to this revelation!
Maybe you read the headlines a while back, “TV Executives Admit in Taped Interviews That Hollywood Pushes a Liberal Agenda.”
Hold on, before I go any further, take a look at the clip below to see my initial reaction to this revelation!
Now you know I’m really old!! I love Gomer, it was a fun show.
Wow, I can tell you were just as shocked by the revelation of media bias as I was. Truth be told, I was shocked. I was shocked that this revelation made it to the headlines! I mean, seriously! I need someone to tell me that?
I have to admit that Ben Shapiro, the author of the book, “Primetime Propaganda,” did a great job of getting folks such as “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman and “Soap” and “Golden Girls” creator Susan Harris to open up and speak honestly about what they knew and felt.
Another producer-director that wasn’t ashamed to let Shapiro know how he felt about conservatives was Nicholas Meyer. He directed the TV movie “The Day After,” for ABC. Supposedly there’s a video that will be released where he tells us what his political agenda was for the movie. He was also asked if conservatives were discriminated against in Hollywood…his response, “Well, I hope so!”
Reading this article brought back memories of meeting with author A.J. Jacob. Maybe you’ve heard of him — he wrote, “The Year of Living Biblically.” Well, in the year that he was “living biblically” he interviewed me.
He was a really nice guy and I enjoyed the time with him. He even included something about our meeting in his book where he talks about information from my book, “Remote Control: The Power of Hollywood on Today’s Culture,” and my DVD, “Exposing the Evolution in Entertainment.”
What was interesting to me though was the number of negative comments I received because I stated that there were messages in the TV shows and movies that were being used to indoctrinate people. I was called many names on various occasions because I pointed out the messages that are in shows such as “Bugs Bunny”. Man, I caught heat on Bugs. “It’s a cartoon, get a life!” wrote one person. Many of the other comments I can’t repeat.
Well, I said it then and I’ll say it again, I don’t care if it’s a cartoon or whatever type of media or whatever means is being used to deliver a lie, it’s still a lie and we have to call it that. We have to teach critical thinking skills to our children. For too long we’ve been educating the way that they world educates and that by using the “regurgitation” method. What do I mean by that?
Well, we give our children a bunch of facts, they memorize them, then we give them a test and grade them on how well they ‘regurgitate’ back to us what we gave them to memorize! Those of you with children and younger sibling know what I’m talking about when I say this is NOT good. Regurgitation isn’t pretty, it doesn’t look good and it doesn’t smell good and it’s not the way we should educate our children. They need critical thinking skills so they can apply what we are teaching them.
I see the world using “Bob the Builder” and “Dinosaur Train” to indoctrinate a generation into politically correct (most often, non-biblical) thinking. As parents we’ve got to be aware that everything that looks fun and cute, isn’t necessarily safe! As a matter of fact, the more “funsy” and “cutesy” you make it the more you can get away with deception.
As I say every time I give the talk on the media, “I’m not saying you shouldn’t watch TV or movies, that’s between you and the Lord. But…If you ARE going to watch these things, you need to watch and listen with discernment using critical thinking skills to process what is being taught.” Non-biblical messages are there and they are having an impact.
By the way, one of the TV shows identified in Shapiro’s book is “Sesame Street.” I can hear some of you saying, “I thought that was just a kids’ show!” . . . NOT! They have a liberal/non-biblical message and are not afraid to communicate it.
It really concerns me that these folks aren’t intimidated at all and even tell us that they are discriminating against conservatives — they just don’t care. That’s pretty bold. We Christians need to be just as bold with the Truth!
Remember, this though. The lost are not the enemy. Jesus died for them just as he did for us. Many times there are folks that just don’t know there is another way of looking at things. Speak the truth in love and share with someone today your Reasons for Hope!
