Join us today for this poignant message teeming with Scripture to help get your year off to the most impactful start ever.
As the New Year begins, it’s natural to reflect on goals and resolutions that will make a lasting impact. While many resolutions focus on health, finances, or personal development, one of the most profound commitments we can make is to share the Gospel and the love of Christ with others. This resolution not only transforms our lives but also has eternal significance for those we reach.
The Great Commission: Our Call to Share
Jesus left His followers with a clear mission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20).
The Great Commission is not a task reserved for pastors or missionaries; it’s a calling for all believers. As we consider our resolutions, let us embrace this divine mandate and commit to sharing the Good News with those around us.
What Is the Gospel?
At its core, the Gospel is the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. It begins with the reality of humanity’s sin: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from a holy God, and the penalty for sin is death: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). But God, in His love and mercy, provided a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again, conquering sin and death. Through faith in Him, we receive forgiveness and eternal life: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
This is the Good News: salvation is a gift of grace, not something we can earn: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
Sharing the Gospel: A Love in Action
The foundation of sharing the Gospel is love. Jesus taught us: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34–35). When we live out the love of Christ, we become living testimonies of His grace and truth. This love can be expressed through acts of kindness, offering a listening ear, or speaking words of encouragement. In doing so, we create opportunities to share the message of salvation.
Overcoming Barriers to Sharing
One of the biggest obstacles to sharing the Gospel is fear. We may worry about rejection, offending others, or not knowing what to say. However, Scripture reminds us: “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7).
When fear arises, we can trust in the Holy Spirit to guide us. Pray for boldness, wisdom, and discernment, knowing that God equips those He calls: “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say” (Luke 12:12).
Practical Steps to Sharing the Gospel
Making this resolution actionable involves practical steps:
- Pray Daily for Opportunities: Ask God to open doors to share His love and give you the courage to walk through them.
- Live Authentically: Let your actions reflect Christ’s love in your daily interactions.
- Be Prepared: Familiarize yourself with key scriptures like Romans 10:9, John 3:16, and Ephesians 2:8, which articulate the Gospel message.
- Engage in Community: Build relationships with those in your community. Genuine connections open the door for meaningful conversations about faith.
- Support Missions: Partner with local or global ministries actively spreading the Gospel.
The Eternal Impact
The Apostle Paul reminds us of the significance of sharing the Gospel: “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14).
Committing to this resolution aligns our lives with God’s heart for the lost. Each conversation, act of kindness, and prayer can plant seeds that the Holy Spirit will nurture and grow.
A Resolution Worth Keeping
As we enter this New Year, let’s resolve to prioritize sharing the Gospel and Christ’s love. This commitment is not about perfection but about being faithful and available for God to use. Let us remember the words of Galatians 6:9: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
This year, let’s embrace the privilege of being Christ’s ambassadors, sharing His love and truth with a world in need. Through His strength, we can make an eternal difference.
