Which came first? The chicken or the egg?
Let’s answer this commonly asked question using the Bible as our starting point.
I can hear what you’re saying, “Really, people still ask that question??” Yes, they do, believe it or not. I have to admit that most of the time it’s someone who is just trying to joke around. Truth be told it’s an important question. The way that you answer it depends on your worldview. Let me show you what I mean.
IF you don’t believe there’s a God, the answer is . . . the egg! Dr. Ritchie explains why.
“And now we know which came first – the chicken or the egg,” Dr. Ritchie said. “The egg came long before the chicken because the reptiles laid them.”
According to evolution reptiles evolved before the bird, which then evolved from the reptiles. Since reptiles lay eggs and were here before the birds, the egg came first!
On the other hand, IF you believe in God and that He did what He said that He did then the correct answer is . . . the chicken! We can say that because of what He tells us in the Bible.
Genesis 1:20-21
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
This means that birds were created before reptiles, which were created on day 6! Choose who you’re going to allow to be your authority, but as for me and my household, I’m going to trust in the Lord!
